Dream Nannies

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How quickly can you find my Nanny or Au Pair ?

This probably what we get asked the most and is usually a family’s first question!

Although generally we do have available candidates on our database ,  we need to search and carefully recruit a nanny or au pair for you.

We will always advertise your role to attract new candidates as well as contacting our database, all candidates are screen and interviewed for your role – so this does take time .

We’re here to present you with the best candidates we can find, however will always do our best to meet any deadline you have.

How quickly we can organise your nanny depends on your role, and availability of suitable nannies in your location.

Once we have understood your requirements, we advertise your role and contact our Nannies on our database. We then start the recruitment process of screening and interviewing applicants for you. We only send you candidates that we have personally interviewed and that we think would be a great match for your family.

Average placement times are anything from 2-6 weeks, we do our best to meet your timescales and if we have the right nanny for you things can happen very quickly.

Ultimately the more notice we have the more time we have to get the best candidates for you – and we don’t want you to rush your decision – getting the right fit is the priority !

How much does a Nanny charge?

Nanny rates vary on their experience, your role and your location. Minimum market rates are $30 per hour, with more experienced career nannies charging $35-$40 per hour

What checks are carried out?

In addition to ensuring the nanny has suitable experience for your role. We also check references and ensure they have a Police Check/Working with Children Check and First Aid / CPR.

All our candidates are interviewed in person by our recruitment team

Who pays the Nanny?

Families employ the nanny and are responsible for paying the nanny directly

Nannies are either considered employees or contractors. Families need to check with the ATO on which is the best way forward – www.ato.gov.au

As permanent employees Nannies are entitled to 4 weeks annual holiday & 10 days personal leave – this is pro-rata if part time.

We understand that families are not usually experienced as Employers so we have partnered with Domestic Payroll – www.domesticpayroll.com who offer an affordable and easy Nanny Pay role service.

Families are required to pay Superannuation if the Nanny works more than 30 hours per week.
If a Nanny is engaged as a contractor the Nanny is responsible for paying their own tax

Do I need insurance?

Insurance to cover your nanny in the event of an accident is an important consideration. You are required by law to provide Worker’s Compensation for your employee whilst working for you in your home who earns over $7,500 PA. This is not always covered by your Home and Contents Insurance so you will need to check with your insurance company.

Nannies can also take out their own Public Liability insurance and we recommend NannySure

What are typical duties of a Nanny?

The main role of a Nanny is to care for children, other duties usually include daycare/school drop offs/pick ups, afterschool activities, assisting with homework, cooking for children , childrens laundry and light housework . Other duties can include cooking meals for the family, family laundry, shopping, running errands. Nanny roles can also be combined with Housekeeping / PA Duties.

You let us know what help you need and we’ll find nannies that match your requirements

What happens if things don’t work out?

Our Placement Fees are due once Nanny has been confirmed, however we provide a 30 day Free replacement guarantee in the event that the nanny doesn’t work out. After this period there may be additional discounted Placement Fees due if a replacement is required before the agreed end date.

We recommend trialling a nanny where possible to ensure it’s a good match for both of you.

What areas do you cover?

We provide our recruitment service all over Australia – and also the UK. All our interviews are conducted via Skype/Zoom so there is nothing lost in service levels by not using a “local” agency.

Some areas are harder to recruit for so if you are in rural/remote locations this may be challenging. If in doubt feel free to give us a call.
